Peer Pressure NOT to Sleep Train

Have you heard some of your friends or other parents of twins talk negatively about sleep training? Have you felt they might be right? Have you wondered how could you get your twins to sleep better, without any actual plan?

Is what they are doing working for them?

I find some parents feel apprehensive about sleep training their children. And I get it. I felt the same up until I started working as a twin nanny so many years ago, and witnessed the damage lack of sleep can cause the family.

Some parents manage to wing it. I find that isn’t the case for most twin parents.

Some sort of structure is needed to hold their household together, and sleep is right at the heart of it.

Sleep is a biological need. It shouldn’t be a luxury you get to enjoy once the kids are off to school. Moreover, they need to sleep too, and the sooner they learn to sleep well, the better.

Because no one likes to feel tired.

There is a reason sleep deprivation is a form of torture... think about it.

Peer pressure to NOT sleep train your twins can lead to parents ignoring their needs and feelings for fear of societal judgment, of other parents labeling them or scrutinizing their parental decisions.

For those families, the pressure to NOT sleep train can lead to more stress and anxiety, and start a cycle of negative thinking and personal judgment for not being able to adopt someone else’s parenting style.

At the end of the day, every parent does the best for their family. For some, it might be riding the endless train of sleep deprivation till school age... For others, it might not.

What is right for you isn’t gonna be right for others. And that’s alright.

How do you want to handle your fatigue? How do you want to approach your children's sleep?

What it right for you?

I believe every parent should follow the path that is right for them.

If you want to sleep train, you shouldn’t feel ashamed, judged or guilty. It’s a personal choice that should be respected. Just like the choice not to.
