Natural vs. Normal
While the two are sometimes used interchangeably, they aren’t the same. What’s normal isn’t always natural.
In today’s society, it’s normal for newborn mothers to raise their babies on their own. It’s normal to not ask for help and be expected to do it all alone. It’s normal to go back to work as soon as you can, because maternity leave has finished and there is no other option. It’s normal to worry about your babies’ health and development. It’s normal to be expected to get it all right. It’s normal to feel judged. It’s normal to suppress your feelings so people won’t know how you really feel. It’s normal to smile and say how much you love being a mother all the time.
However, it’s natural to want support during your postpartum. It’s natural for mothers to feel anxious they might not know what to do with the overwhelming feelings new motherhood brings with it. It’s natural to not know how to do it “just right” from the get-go. It’s natural to want to stay with your baby for longer than the maternity leave would allow. It’s natural to need a break from caring for your little one to take a shower, a rest, or some fresh air. It’s natural to want to share these experiences with family and friends.
Just because something is deemed normal does not mean it is natural.
Postpartum is a natural process of life. Our ancient and traditional cultures have cleverly identified this time as one of nurturing, supporting and caring for newborn mothers. Postpartum support strives to bring those natural practices back to our homes, so your new motherhood experience is filled with love, warm, care and nourishment.
