Newborn Twins FAQs
-
Cots: In the first 3 months, the twins can share a cot without disturbing each other.
Later, there are different ways to set up the cots depending on the twins' age. You can see detailed set-ups in my blog post on this exact topic.
Light: Ensure the room is dark enough to help your babies settle to sleep faster, and to re-settle when they wake up too early. If you can read a book in the room, it ain't dark enough.
Toys: Keep toys and mobiles out of the cots. These can become too distracting wen settling the babies to sleep.
White noise: using white noise for all sleeps will help your twins settle faster, and stay asleep.

My postpartum support includes me coming to your home for 3h twice a week, to help with the babies and with light house work.
My focus is on helping you, mama, get time to rest and take care of your needs. We'll plan for mental, physical and emotional breaks from caring for the twins, talk about your feelings and concerns, and help you feel as confident and relaxed as you ease into the new motherhood.
As a sleep consultant, I will also help with settling the babies to sleep, and optimise their sleep environment to help all of you get the rest you need.

With newborns, the focus of sleep consultation is on optimising the babies’ sleep environment, observing age-appropriate wake windows, implementing effective settling methods for newborns, and understanding how to recognise your babies’ needs.
We will work with a newborn-specific routine which is designed to meet your newborn’ schedule, and promote easier and effective settling.

While routine is indeed desired by many twin parents, and can in fact make things easier, my focus is on helping both twins sleep as much as they need, rather than keeping them on a routine. So when working with newborn parents on better sleep, we look at supporting the twin that needs more settling, rather than ending up with two overtired babies.
