Sleep Train or Not, with Twins
Should I Sleep train My twins?
Twin sleep training isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok. The choice to start the process or go another way is an individual decision.
I have found that fear and stress around sleep, and sleep training, are ever more heightened when it comes to twins. The sheer logistics of settling two babies at the same time can understandably be quite overwhelming.
In my experience, getting twins on a routine helps parents, and the entire family, maintain a sense of control and peace which helps reduce anxiety and stress. Which is why twin sleep training makes sense to them. Parents can then have more predictability in planning the day and taking care of everyone’s needs, including their own.
Most of the twin families I worked with over the years have found this to be the right way for them. They needed help reinstating sanity in their lives, and the lack of sleep was unbearable. Whether it was time for parents to return to work, family’s dynamic that needed to be considered such as older children.
Or simply because the parents felt the uncertainty and sleep deprivation that comes with the lack of a sleep routine and solid stretches of sleep - made them choose this path.
Some thought they wouldn’t ever sleep train their twins, others tried different ways to cope, and some naturally decided this is worth a shot.
Whichever might be the reason you choose to sleep train your twins- they are all valid.
And yet, this isn’t the only way. If twin sleep training doesn’t feel right for you and you have the time, energy, and capacity to do it differently, then no one can tell you otherwise.
Every twin family is different, and every parent has their children’s best interest at heart.
Everyone’s best looks different.
